I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the isolating valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go straight to the main valve for your property. If you’re unable to locate a main valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside the house to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.

Once that’s done, give us a ring, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there shortly to get things sorted.

While waiting, remove any important things from the area, and wipe up any water or position a bucket to catch any drips. If you turned the mains water off, also switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
